Festival gets underway!

I have just popped nto the gallery to have a look at the Kid's Medieval Workshop and it is packed! Loads of kids and parents all busy creating masks and more ready for the parade next Saturday (17th) in the High St.
The wonderful Town Crier was in fine voice down by the Memorial, spreading the news of the festival and the Opening Concert which starts at 12 in St Mary's Church. The Memphis Fliers were about to kick off with their rockabilly music that gets your feet tapping and there were more kids on the bouncy castle and being face painted by members of Christchurch. The Town Centre is buzzing which was fantastic to see!!

Welcome to the fifth Hailsham Arts Festival!

Every year support for the Festival increases, enabling us to extend the range of events on offer. This year's ten day programme features the usual cultural medley of art, music, poetry, drama and art history, including an evening of Greek dance and music and an exhibition of work by several artists from France, three of whom come from Gournay-en-Bray, Hailsham's twin town.

We are especially delighted to introduce an impressive children's event, organised by the newly formed Hailsham Art 4 Kids.  It includes fancy dress, puppetry, a performance by Rapport childrens choir and a very special appearance by St George and the dragon!

We would like to thank all our regular sponsors for their continued support and Hailsham Town Council for their help and encouragement.

The aim of the festival is to highlight the arts in Hailsham.  We do hope you will want to support the events on offer - the festival is for you!

Jenny West
Festival Director

Festival news - a sneaky peek of this year's programme!

After another busy festival committee meeting yesterday, we are pleased to reveal a few highlights of this year's Hailsham Arts Festival:

Performances by Hailsham Theatres, Downlanders Poetry Group and folk group Contraband;

A Zumba party! - come join in the latest dance craze that has taken the country by storm!
Keep fit....by dancing, laughing and having fun, with salsa and samba rhythms and live percussion music.

The Festival Exhibition and Art Trail - showcasing the creative talents of both professional artists and art groups from the area;

The 'Hailsham Art 4 Kids' event on the morning of Saturday 17th September - discovering the cultural history of England and St George.
Come join the parade as a brave knight or beautiful princess, or just waving your banner high; process through the town, down to the Hailsham Pavilion to meet a very special guest - but watch out for dragons!!

The evening of Saturday 17th September: a spectacular performance by the Lyra Greek Dancers, with traditional costumes and live music. With over 300 performances including folk festivals, international competitions and even Channel 4's The Paul O'Grady show...this is an evening not to be missed!!

All in all - the fifth annual Hailsham Arts Festival is shaping up nicely!
